Report: Jets targeting key starter in potential Jamal Adams trade with Cowboys

New York Jets S Jamal Adams

New York Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams wants to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys. There’s one way that might be feasible.

Jets targeting right tackle La’el Collins in Jamal Adams trade with Cowboys?

Discussing the Adams trade rumors on a podcast with Andy Herman, Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network shared what he’s learned. Apparently, the Jets covet a top offensive lineman and could be targeting him in a trade that sends Adams to the Cowboys.

Per Pro Football Network, Pauline said: “I’m told right now that the player the Jets would ask for in a trade for Adams would be right tackle La’el Collins. That’s the player that they want. That’s the player that they’re going to target…If you’re a Jets fan, you know one thing – you can’t start the season with Chuma Edoga starting at right tackle.”

It’s understandable that the Jets would be looking at Collins. In addition to the need for an upgrade on the offensive line, the simple fact is that Collins is one of the best right tackles in all of football. Per Pro Football Focus, he only allowed two sacks in 601 pass-blocking snaps, and had the third-best run-blocking grade in the NFL.

Other rumors suggest a Jamal Adams trade to Cowboys isn’t going to happen

There’s a big problem with the idea that the Jets could send Adams to Dallas in a trade with the Cowboys. It all boils down to money. As we laid out recently, Jerry Jones has too many mouths to feed already (more on that here).

Adam Schefter of ESPN recently touched on the money issue and said that a trade was “not realistic.”

So it looks like Adams may have to be content with landing at another one of his preferred trade destinations. If the Jets trade him at all.
