The San Francisco 49ers are currently flying a Black Lives Matter flag atop Levi’s Stadium, where it’s set up next to the California state flag and the American flag.

A couple of images of the Black Lives Matter flag were shared by the team on Instagram. The first shows the flag next to the two other flags, and the second shows where it’s located at the top of Levi’s Stadium.

49ers have supported Black Lives Matter in other ways

The 49ers famously parted ways with Colin Kaepernick in 2017. Kaepernick, of course, began protesting against police brutality toward African-Americans in America during the 2016 season. However, San Francisco had supported Kaepernick during his protests, and the organization donated $1 million to help fund social justice issues in 2016.

The 49ers have also donated $1 million this year following the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25.

Jed York addressed Black Lives Matter during 49ers state-of-the-franchise meeting

Speaking at the team’s state-of-the-franchise meeting Monday night, 49ers owner Jed York shared his thoughts on why he is so fervently supporting Black Lives Matter right now.

“First and foremost, you’re saddened and outraged when you see events take place, especially when they’re specifically violent events that are targeted at African Americans. We’re focused on taking actions,” York said, per Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group.

“We have to make sure we do everything we can that they have a voice, whether that’s making sure they can get out to vote (and that’s the best way to make your voice heard in this country), or if we can work with groups like the Players Coalition and others that can help change laws and tactics, that we might not be experts in.

“We want to work with people that are experts, so that we can make real, serious change in this country.

“The thing we do know better than the political aspect of things that need to be changed, we certainly understand education. We understand giving people equal opportunities. That’s where we’ve done work for decades and will continue to do work.

“We want to make sure we empower everybody in our organization and out to make the most of their lives and to have what I believe is equality for all and justice for all.”

Flying the Black Lives Matter flag over Levi’s Stadium is one way to let everyone know that the 49ers organization is fully behind the movement.
