Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes are two of the brightest shining stars in the NFL right now, and they are often compared to one another.
Speaking with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report’s “Take it There,” Jackson admitted he’s already tired of all that talk.
Jackson delved into this issue and many more during a six-minute interview with Rooks.
Here’s a look at what he had to say about the Mahomes comparisons.
Lamar Jackson: Patrick Mahomes comparisons are ‘annoying’
Mahomes won NFL MVP in 2018 in his first year as the starter for the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, in his first full season starting for the Baltimore Ravens, Jackson won the award — becoming the second player in history to win it unanimously.
These two young quarterbacks are among the most electric playmakers the league has to offer right now. And they lead two of the best teams in the AFC. So it’s not surprising that they are often talked about in the same breath. When Rooks asked Jackson about being compared to Mahomes a lot, however, he made it clear that he wishes that talk would go away.
Rooks asked Jackson: “Does it bother you that that’s always a topic?”
Jackson replied: “Yeah, that’s annoying,” he said, pausing. Jackson continued, saying, “We play football. Two different teams. Ain’t got nothing to do with each other. Like, we just play football. That’s it.”
When asked if he thinks the comparisons will ever end, Jackson laughed and said, “Nah. But I just wanted to say that.”

When Rooks asked Jackson if there was one thing he could take from Mahomes’ game, he first said there was nothing. Then, he took it back and said, “No, I’m lying! To throw as far as him. I want that cannon.”
For what it’s worth, Jackson has plenty of arm. And he showed it off a ton last year.
That said, Mahomes’ arm is on another level. He’s clearly one of the best deep-ball throwers in the NFL today and is stunningly accurate throwing bombs downfield.
Regarding the comparisons between Jackson and Mahomes, they aren’t going away any time soon. In fact, if both of these guys can stay healthy for the next 10-plus years, that talk will only increase.
