As COVID-19 continues to spike in the state of Louisiana, workers at the Mercedes Benz Superdome — home of the New Orleans Saints — are among the victims.
11.6% of workers on stadium renovation tested positive for COVID-19
Of the 275 workers renovating the Mercedes Benz Superdome, 32 of them — a stunning 11.6% — tested positive.
Here’s more from the statement issued by Mercedes Benz Superdome:
“After learning of the affected workers, Broadmoor LLC, the main contractor for the project, implemented its coronavirus response plan to ensure that those affected workers had been isolated away from the job site. These workers will be required to complete the CDC-compliant protocol and provide Broadmoor LLC evidence of a negative COVID-19 test before being allowed back on the site. We have also increased mitigation measures such as mandatory masks to protect workers who remain on the job.”
Other NFL stadium projects have seen positive COVID-19 tests
The percentage of positive tests from the Mercedes Benz Superdome renovation is very high. However, this isn’t the first time the NFL has seen people working on a major project get hit by COVID-19.
The SoFi Stadium job in Los Angeles has seen nine workers test positive. Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas has also seen a rash of positive tests from workers at the site.
The NFL has also seen positive tests from players and coaches. Yet the show appears to be going on as planned.
