The Minnesota Vikings have been busy this offseason shaking up their roster and bringing in a new wave of talent for the future. While the lineup will see plenty of changes this season, Minnesota is reportedly determined to keep head coach Mike Zimmer.

Zimmer, 63, is only under contract for the 2020 season before his contract expires and there are only a few months left before training camp. However, per The Athletic’s Chad Graff, the Vikings are still fully expected to extend their head coach this year.

Minnesota typically likes to handle contract matters earlier in the offseason, but the COVID-19 pandemic has caused delays. Zimmer normally meets with the owners in April, per The Athletic, but those meetings have been pushed back this year during the global health crisis.

Zimmer has proven to be an excellent hire for Minnesota since being brought in before the 2013 season. He won seven games in his first season and has won 50 games in the five years since, including three 10-win campaigns. During his six-year tenure, the Vikings have made the playoffs three times and hold a 2-3 record in the postseason.

After signing Kirk Cousins to a two-year extension this offseason, Minnesota’s next priorities have become Zimmer and running back Dalvin Cook. If the Vikings can get both to sign long-term deals before the upcoming season, this team will be in great position to compete for years to come.
