The Philadelphia Eagles surprised players during a virtual meeting this past week with an NBA legend as a special guest. On Monday, players received an even bigger surprise that likely brought them even more joy.
According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, the Eagles informed players on Monday that the team is ending its virtual offseason indefinitely. The meetings were held as a way to keep everyone in contact regularly and help players stay motivated while facilities are closed from football personnel.
The decision is identical to the one made by New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton. New Orleans opted not to hold a virtual off-season training program, allowing all players to skip out on the voluntary meetings and prepare for training camp.
The NFL revealed this past week that there is no timeline for facilities to open for players and coaches. Due to the league wanting all 32 teams to have equal access during the pandemic, minicamps for each team in June are now in jeopardy.
The Saints and Eagles may bring back virtual meetings and at-home workouts with the team if minicamp can’t be held at their facilities. Until that time comes, they are happy letting players keeping each other accountable and spending the extra time with their families.
