San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice knows what it takes to get back to the Super Bowl in back-to-back seasons. He has some thoughts about the current team’s chances of making it back to the big game after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in February.

Jerry Rice on 49ers Super Bowl chances: ‘It’s hard the next year’

Rice spoke at length about the 49ers during an Instagram Live session with team reporter Keiana Martin.

During his interview, Rice shared an optimistic view of the team as it’s constructed right now.

“We came up a little short in the Super Bowl, but we had a great season last year,” Rice said (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area). “I feel like they still have all those pieces in place right now. The time is now for the San Francisco 49ers. It’s right now. You can’t be looking down the road. You’ve got everybody in place right now, so you need to get it done.”

However, Rice then explained why the 49ers will have a tough road back to the Super Bowl this coming season.

“I think you’re a target now,” Rice said, “because every team is going to give you their best shot. Every game is going to be like a playoff game, and I have gone through this. It’s hard the next year. You’ve got to battle through, but I feel like they have the players that can do that.”

The 49ers certainly have a talented roster. And they also have one of the best young head coaches in the NFL. Coming off a stellar draft in which they landed a top defensive lineman, an electric receiver and one of the best left tackles in the game, Trent Williams, they may have what it takes to get back.
