Just a few months after he signed with the University of Oregon, four-star cornerback Luke Hill is now in police custody and facing charges for attempted murder in the first degree.

First reported by 247 Sports, Hill was arrested in Maryland on Wednesday and is facing eight charges. According to documents filed by the District Court for Prince George’s County, the is being charged with possession of a firearm, handgun on person, use of an assault weapon, firearm use, reckless endangerment, first-degree assault and attempted murder in the first degree.

Hill, the No. 15 cornerback in the 2020 recruiting class, turned down offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Michigan for an opportunity to play with the Ducks. Upon his signing, many believed the 5-foot-11 corner to contribute rather quickly upon his arrival and he was expected to strengthen Oregon’s secondary.

Ducks coach Mario Cristobal told The Oregonian that the program parted ways with Hill earlier in the spring. As of Wednesday morning, he was not listed on Oregon’s roster for the 2020 season.

Hill’s preliminary hearing is scheduled to be held on June 19. No further information about the alleged incident leading to his arrest has been provided.
