The Philadelphia Eagles will head into the summer with plenty of uncertainty at left tackle. Just a year after drafting Andre Dillard to take over in 2020, there is now increasing fear in Philadelphia that he could already be a first-round bust.
Amid increasing reports of distrust in Dillard at left tackle, the Eagles could be looking at a reunion to solve their problem along the offensive line.
Eagles to reunite with Jason Peters?
The Eagles released Jason Peters on March 11, moving on from the All-Pro offensive tackle in an effort to clear cap space and create an opening for Dillard. Peters, who played in Philadelphia from 2009-’19, emerged as a leader in the locker room and served as a mentor to the team’s young offensive linemen.
Now with the 2020 NFL Draft over and a majority of teams already filling their holes at offensive tackle, the Eagles and Peters could be looking at a reunion. In fact, per NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn, it’s only a matter of time before the two sides get something done.
Peters will be entering his age-38 season and while he’s no longer playing at his All-Pro level, he provided consistency at a crucial position. Not only did Peters play well, he also proved to be rather durable by starting 232-of-35 games over the past two years.
It could be the perfect solution for everyone. Peters can return to the city and team he loves for one final run at the Super Bowl, while the Eagles solidify their offensive line to help keep Carson Wentz healthy. Meanwhile, if the front office keeps Dillard, he’ll be given another year to mature and develop behind a future Hall of Famer.
