When the Cleveland Browns hired Kevin Stefanski to be their next head coach, Baker Mayfield was at the center of that decision. The former offensive coordinator was brought on board to help Mayfield live up to his potential. Though it’s early, it appears the two of them are off to a great start.

Stefanski ‘very impressed’ with how smart Baker Mayfield is

Speaking with SiriusXM NFL Radio recently, Stefanski detailed how things have gone so far. The team began its virtual offseason on April 20. Since then, Stefanski says Mayfield has been working virtually with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt almost every day.

Stefanski also praised Mayfield: “He’s a really bright football player. I’ve been very impressed with how smart Baker is.”

Stefanski also alluded to how last year was a big disappointment to Mayfield and the Browns.

“He knows he has to improve off of last year, and that message of improvement is the same for every single one of our players,” Stefanski said. “We want to get guys that are eager to take a step forward and Baker completely understands that, and I think he’s a very determined and driven person.”

It’s going to be fascinating to see how Stefanski and Mayfield work together to lead the Browns in 2020. The talent on this roster is tremendous on both sides of the ball. If all the players buy into Stefanski’s system, and if Mayfield takes a leap in his development, Cleveland has a real chance to do big things.
