As Major League Baseball looks for a way to bring the sport back during the COVID-19 pandemic, many players have had to find ways to prepare for the season without going to the ballpark. Since all MLB stadiums are shutdown and with stay-at-home orders issued across most states, Texas Rangers infielder Nick Solak had to find a way to bring the park to his home.
So, Solak and his fiancée went to work at home by turning their own backyard into a batting practice field. After creating cardboard bases, setting up foul lines and creating the full stadium field, Solak and Roxanne McVey turned on the pitching machine and started taking some hacks.
Solak got in some nice at-bats, but McVey really showed off her skills with a big slam that left their created stadium. Better yet, she showed off some flair with a nice bat flip and enjoyed every second of her home run. The pitching machine seemed to take exception to the bat flip, drilling McVey on the next pitch.
We thought Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras had found a cool way to take batting practice during the quarantine. Solak and McVey just raised the bar to an even higher level. If it’s going to be a few months before MLB returns, let’s hope more players start getting creative with their training from home.
