Most reports surrounding Tua Tagovailoa these days center around a potential draft-day slide, but Trent Dilfer is going a different direction.
And by “a different direction,” we mean Dilfer may have just lost his mind.
“He throws better than Aaron Rodgers and Dan Marino,” Dilfer said, via The Washington Post. “He throws the football better than anyone throws the football. Whoever gets him wins the draft because you are getting a Hall of Fame player.”
In all seriousness, while there is a ton of uncertainty surrounding Tagovailoa — most of it centers around his health and ability to withstand the physicality of the NFL game long term — the one thing pretty much everyone (not named Trent Dilfer, that is) agrees on is that Tua Tagovailoa does not have a rocket for an arm. In fact, he’s really an average quarterback when it comes to arm strength.
Dan Marino, on the other hand, had a veritable rocket launcher installed in his throwing arm by the football gods. Aaron Rodgers is also blessed with a cannon, as his many Hail Mary throws prove time and time again.
To say that Tagovailao “throws better” than Rodgers and Marino is just pure sacrilege. Though, the fact that Dilfer has been helping train the Alabama star this offseason may have a lot to do with this stretching of the truth.
