The NFL world is still abuzz over the Houston Texans’ decision to trade star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals last month.
Houston received pennies on the dollar for one of the most-productive pass catchers in recent NFL history, leading to criticism being directed at Bill O’Brien. We’re now hearing more about who else might have been interested in the All-Pro receiver.
According to NFL Media’s Mike Silver, the conference rival Baltimore Ravens made a play for Hopkins prior to him being dealt to the desert.
This is a rather interesting development in that Baltimore could very well target a receiver with their first-round pick (28th overall) Thursday night.
Any move to acquire Hopkins likely would have cost the Ravens more than Arizona paid. That’s if Houston was even willing to trade him within the AFC.
Fresh off a 2019 season that saw them finish with the best record in the NFL, the Ravens are in need of more receiver help for reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. Youngster Marquise Brown played well as a rookie, but there’s a lot of room for improvement behind him on the depth chart.
