As many team owners and players continue to step up with incredible donations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NFL is making its own plans to provide relief funds for communities in need.
The 2020 NFL Draft, which will likely be held virtually from April 23-25, will reportedly feature a fundraising telecast across all three days to raise funds for COVID-19 relief efforts. While talks are ongoing, per NBC Sports’ Peter King, the NFL plans to have celebrity players along with former players and coaches urging viewers to donate to relief efforts.
The NFL community has already done remarkable work to help those in need, raising more than $35 million. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees pledged $5 million to aid Louisiana’s relief efforts, helping provide food and supplies to families in need.
He joined other stars who have done whatever they can to help various communities struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Baker Mayfield, Adrian Peterson, Brandin Cooks and Deshaun Watson have each donated money towards providing food to essential workers and medical supplies to hospitals.
Houston Texans offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil created a $250,000 fund that took requests from those struggling financially and provided them with support. The Los Angeles Rams recently announced their telethon raised $2.3 million for local food banks, which led to their COO reading hilarious mean tweets.
Let’s hope the NFL’s plan can help generate even more money towards COVID-19 relief efforts as many across the country come together to help as many people as possible.
