Redskins’ Ron Rivera says team chased after Amari Cooper ‘very hard’

Amari Cooper, Redskins

The Washington Redskins were looking to make a major splash during the early stages of NFL free agency last month.

Reports surfaced that the long-downtrodden organization was looking to add Amari Cooper from the division rival Dallas Cowboys. Washington reportedly offered more than the five-year, $100 million deal it took for Dallas to retain the star receiver.

In fashion that’s been atypical of this organization under embattled owner Daniel Snyder, new head coach Ron Rivera admitted that the Skins did in fact chase after Cooper.

That’s something else right there. Snyder’s Redskins tend to play it close to the vest when it comes to the media. Rivera was the opposite of that during his near-decade run as the Carolina Panthers’ head coach.

Missing out on Cooper does hurt Washington to an extent. Whether it’s Dwayne Haskins or another signal caller under center next season, receiver could be an issue in the nation’s capital.

Terry McLaurin was tremendous as a rookie third-round pick last season. But outside of that, the Skins don’t have much at receiver. Expect them to address that at some point during the 2020 NFL Draft later this month.
