Penn State’s James Franklin has strong stance on when CFB can start

The 2020 college football season is not slated to start until late August. Despite this, there’s been suggestions that the season will have to be postponed or canceled altogether due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

We’re several weeks away from the NCAA and teams making a decision on that. It’s primarily going to be all about how the pandemic plays out in the United States and whether college campuses actually open up.

Penn State head coach James Franklin opened up about this on Saturday with a pretty strong stance in favor of science and state leaders.

This comes on the heels of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf throwing cold water on the idea that the 2020 NFL season will start on time. That was in direct contrast to what President Donald Trump said earlier in April.

First and foremost, college campuses will have to open up in order for college football to even be on the radar. Leaders around the college football world made that clear to Vice President Mike Pence in a conference call earlier this week.

States will likely open back up again on a staggered basis. Those less impacted could start that process within the next two weeks. Others will have to wait a while longer depending on how the COVID-19 pandemic plays out.

Until then, Franklin is 100% correct. Sports continuing in any form will depend on science, data and how the pandemic plays out.
