As the COVID-19 pandemic worsens across the country, more people from across professional sports are coming through to help those in need. Now, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is teaming up with two team partners to provide incredible support for health care workers.
Embiid is joining forces with managing partner Josh Harris and co-managing partner David Blitzer to contribute $1.3 million in critical support to Penn Medicine and help aid health care workers fighting against COVID-19.
The money will go toward a campaign for antibody testing with health care workers, some of whom might have immunity to the new virus. It will help provide health care workers with the support they desperately need during a pandemic that has made them more critical than ever.
“During this pandemic, many doctors and nurses are working like soldiers on the front lines of a war and they need to be provided with as much armor as possible in this battle,” Embiid said, via NBA.com. “COVID-19 antibody testing can help Philadelphia health care workers at this critical time, and we need to do everything possible to help those heroes who are putting their lives at risk to help us.”
The incredible donations will be incredibly impactful, helping provide support and potentially also creating the resources needed to help discover more effective treatments for COVID-19.
