It’s going to be a long way back to normalcy for the United States and the rest of the world as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread.
The pandemic has played a huge role around the sports world, too, with multiple countries suspending sporting events. Here in the United States, the NBA, NHL and MLB seasons are currently on hiatus.
When might we get live sports back? While there seems to be some positives within the states as it relates to this, at least one huge foreign power made it clear on Tuesday that sports won’t be returning in his country any time soon.
French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe has banned sporting events in his nation until at least September. This means that the French first division’s 2019-20 season is done. As the report from Roger Gonzalez of CBS Sports notes, it’s the first of the five big Euroleagues to see its season canceled.
France has been hit hard by the pandemic with north of 128,000 cases and nearly 23,300 deaths.
While the United States has become the epicenter of COVID-19, certain states are in the process of reopening their economies. This has led to speculation that sports could return in some form during the summer.
Unlike some European nations, there’s not a nation-wide lock down in the United States. That changes the dynamics a bit domestically in that certain states could reopen before others and host sporting events.
Major League Baseball is considering the option of playing all of their games in Arizona without fans in attendance. Meanwhile, the NBA is said to be intrigued about the possibility of resuming the season in Las Vegas.
