The Miami Dolphins head into the 2020 NFL Draft with an immense collection of draft picks. Now with the draft nearing and sitting at the No. 5 overall pick, the Dolphins could be eyeing a trade up for a player no one is expecting.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins are gauging the price with the Detroit Lions on the cost of moving up for the No. 3 selection. If Miami can jump up two spots, it would potentially take an offensive tackle.
The Dolphins have been expected to take a quarterback early since they started their rebuild before the 2019 season. Sitting at the No. 5 pick, the Dolphins seemed certain to draft Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert as their new face of the franchise.
However, there have been increasing reports as of late that Miami would pass on Tagovailoa and could take an offensive tackle with the No. 5 selection. The 2020 draft class is particularly deep at tackle and we could see as many as four taken with top-10 picks.
If the Dolphins are genuinely attempting to trade up for an offensive tackle, it would be with the intent to jump ahead of the New York Giants. New York is widely believed to be targeting a tackle with the No. 4 overall pick to protect Daniel Jones.
The Lions have made it no secret that they are willing to move down from the No. 3 spot. The Dolphins easily boast the draft capital to pull off a swap on draft day. If Miami trades up for an offensive tackle, it might go down as one of the most shocking moves in recent years.
