It’s the unintended consequences of the current COVID-19 pandemic. The sports world has taken a back seat as those around the globe combat the virus.

One of the biggest annual events in North American sports is now being impacted by the global pandemic.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced on Wednesday that the induction ceremony for the class of 2020 has been canceled. It will join the class of 2021 in being honored a year from July.

Located in Cooperstown, New York, the Hall of Fame draws millions of visitors on an annual basis. Of course, New York itself is the epicenter of the global pandemic with nearly 300,000 cases and north of 17,600 deaths.

The likes of Derek Jeter and Larry Walker were set to be inducted at one of the most iconic sites in the United States this coming July. Alas, it will have to wait another year.
