Report: NFL teams could be cleared sign XFL players next week?

XFL, NFL

The XFL was launched this year to give players another opportunity to prove themselves to NFL teams. While the season came to an abrupt end after five games, XFL players could reportedly have an opportunity very soon to potentially sign with NFL teams.

While the XFL allowed players to sign immediately with NFL teams at the conclusion of their suspended season, the NFL informed its clubs that they are prohibited from contacting. Now after some deliberation, per ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the NFL could have a resolution in place early next week that would allow its clubs to sign XFL players.

It’s outstanding news for Houston Roughnecks quarterback P.J. Walker. The 25-year-old stood out as the XFL’s best player and caught the eye of multiple NFL teams. As of this week, the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals all inquired with the Roughnecks about Walker.

Houston’s star quarterback won’t be the only XFL starter to draw interest from NFL teams. Los Angeles Wildcats quarterback Josh Johnson, Roughnecks receiver Cam Phillips and St. Louis BattleHawks quarterback Jordan Ta’Amu could also attract some attention following strong performances in the XFL.

While the XFL’s relaunch didn’t finish how they hoped, due to the coronavirus epidemic, seeing some of their best players head to the NFL would be a success for the league.
