Manchester City-Arsenal match postponed due to coronavirus concerns

Manchester City, Arsenal

The upcoming match between Manchester City and Arsenal has been postponed due to concerns over the coronavirus.

Manchester City and Arsenal announced in statements that the decision was made to postpone Wednesday’s match against Arsenal as a precautionary measure due to the current spread of COVID-19, commonly known as the coronavirus. A date has not yet been scheduled for a potential rematch

Arsenal FC recently played Olympiacos two weeks ago in the Europa League and multiple Arsenal players came in contact with Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who tested positive for the coronavirus.

The decision was made to follow guidelines from the government and medical experts, which recommended that anyone who came into contact with someone that had the virus to self-isolate themselves for 14 days.

In the United States, the NBA, MLB and NHL have each taken recent steps to ensure the safety of their players with the spread of the coronavirus. All three leagues are also considering holding games without fans in attendance.

The Ivy League announced it is canceling its basketball tournaments and the BNP Paribas Open was also canceled. Nippon Professional Baseball announced on Monday that it is postponing the start of its 2020 season.
