It was just recently that two unnamed members of the Los Angeles Lakers tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). As the pandemic continues to spread across the United States with no end in sight, Southern California has become among the hardest hit regions.
While in quarantine under California’s shelter in place protocol, Lakers star forward LeBron James took time out of his Wednesday to send a message to the UCLA health staff. It was something else.
“I just want to let you know that ya’ll hard work and ya’ll dedication does not go unnoticed,” King James said, via TMZ Sports. “The James Gang family here thanks you guys and hopefully we can get back on our feet and we can get back to our everyday lives very soon. I just want to say thank you once again. Like I said, do not think for one second that you guys are not recognized, that you guys are going unnoticed.”
The lack of medical equipment coupled with the growing number of hospitalizations stemming from COVID-19 has put hospitals on the brink. First responders have been impacted big time with many of them putting their lives on the line to save others.
Los Angeles County itself has nearly 700 confirmed cases of the virus. Doctors, nurses and other staff at UCLA have handled a nice amount of them.
James’ sentiment shows that it has not gone unnoticed.
“The time and the commitment that you guys are putting in, it’s truly commendable and remarkable at the same time,” the future Hall of Famer continued. “So God bless you guys and can’t wait to see you guys again. One love.”
Other big-name personalities around the sports world have stepped up to talk about the need for social distancing. While James did not discuss that, his words lend even more credence to the idea that we must do our part to help these medical professionals. That’s for sure.
