Former Sooners RB Trey Sermon picks Ohio State as transfer destination

Trey Sermon Ohio State transfer

In a move that boosts Ohio State football in a big way, former Oklahoma running back Trey Sermon is joining the Buckeyes in 2020.

Sermon told Letterman Row that he is choosing Ohio State as his transfer destination on Sunday morning.

“I just believe it’s the best situation for me,” Sermon said. “I know that I have the opportunity to play there considering the depth, and I had a relationship with [running backs coach Tony] Alford during my recruiting process coming out of high school. He was a great guy then, and I just feel like I connected well with him. I know I’m going to have to go in and compete for the job, but I feel like it’s the best situation for me to go into now.”

This move should significantly bolster the Buckeyes’ offense in 2020. As we discussed in some detail here, Ohio State’s running back situation is a bit tenuous due to injuries to Master Teague and Marcus Crowley this spring.

Now, with Sermon in the mix, there should be no shortage of big plays coming out of the running back position this coming season.

In three seasons with the Sooners, Sermon racked up 2,467 yards and 25 touchdowns from scrimmage. He’s a versatile back and should become a dynamic weapon for the Buckeyes in 2020.
