Florida Panthers owner to pay all employees through COVID-19 crisis

Vincent Viola

As the NHL and other major professional sports leagues wait out the COVID-19 pandemic, one thing has come up in the background.

How are these teams and their billionaire owners going to treat their employees during a time of tremendous economic angst.

The NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers went in one direction before backtracking big time. On the other hand, Florida Panthers owner Vincent Viola has decided to pay all 230 employees their wages through the end of the COVID-19 crisis.

As a billionaire, Viola can more than afford this. However, it’s an absolutely amazing gesture from the former United States Secretary of the Army nominee under President Trump.

There’s no telling when the NHL season will get going again. It normally ends some time in June. At the very least, it will continue through August now. Of course, that’s dependent on the season not being canceled altogether.
