Russell Westbrook (thumb) ruled out Tuesday vs. Hornets

NBA trades: Expect Russell Westbrook to be moved
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook will miss Tuesday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets with a left thumb injury.

Westbrook suffered the injury to his left thumb during Sunday’s game and had the injury heavily wrapped. He suffered the injury when a New Orleans Pelicans player went for the ball, but instead hit Westbrook’s thumb. In his absence, Ben McLemore will slide into Houston’s lineup.

The nine-time All-Star guard is averaging 26.4 points, 7.4 assists and eight rebounds per game this season. He’s been especially hot as of late, coming off a stretch in January when he averaged 32.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

The Rockets will also be without center Clint Capela for Tuesday’s game. The young center has been sidelined with a persistent heel injury and the Rockets are playing it safe, especially with the star center potentially on the move before the NBA trade deadline.
