Ron Rivera on Trent Williams’ return: Nothing has been resolved

The Washington Redskins are hoping that the arrival of Ron Rivera will lead to the return of seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams.

Speaking briefly after attending an NFL competition committee meeting Sunday, Rivera was asked about the situation. His response was shared by Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that Williams will return to Washington in 2020.

Washington was without Williams all of last season after he vowed to never play for the organization due to the way the team’s medical staff approached a medical emergency. Williams has since divulged he needed to have growths removed from his scalp, and that he’d been diagnosed with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a form of cancer.

Williams held out the entire season. Now, Washington is trying to get him back in the fold. If he can be convinced that things are really different now that Bruce Allen is a former president, then Williams’ arrival on Washington’s offensive line would be an incredible boost, to be sure.
