Report: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist buyout in Charlotte, with Mavericks being ‘possible destination’

The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly finalizing a buyout with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who could be headed to the Dallas Mavericks after the transaction is complete.

Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported the news Saturday:

Kidd-Gilchrist, of course, is a former No. 2 overall pick (2012) who has never lived up to the hype. He has been a bench player for much of his career and is averaging just over 18 minutes (with 6.7 points and 3.8 rebound) per game this season in Charlotte.

Set to be a free agent after the season anyway, this just fast-tracks his ability to find a new team and perhaps a new lease on his NBA career.
