The Seattle Mariners are taking care of some business ahead of spring training. According to multiple media reports, Seattle has signed ace starter Marco Gonzales to a four-year, $30 million extension. It comes with an option for a fifth season, too.
Gonzales, 27, was one of the few bright spots for a Mariners squad that once again missed out on the playoffs a season ago.
He posted a 16-13 record with a 3.99 ERA and 1.31 WHIP while tying for the league lead with 34 starts.
Orginally acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals back in 2017, this deal takes Gonzales through three seasons of arbitration. It’s definitely a team-friendly deal for Seattle.
