Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame third baseman Chipper Jones is about to make his return to the game after retiring back in 2012.

According to Carroll Rogers Walton of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jones has been hired by ESPN to be its color analyst for “Wednesday Night Baseball” this coming season.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but if I hadn’t played baseball, if I had gone to college, I would have majored in communications,” said Jones. “I wanted to be a broadcaster. I really have fun talking the game. I feel like I have something to impart upon the people tuning in, and I have fun doing it. I get the chance to do it on probably the biggest stage you can, maybe next to (ESPN’s) Sunday Night Baseball.”

Jones does have some experience in the field and has acted as a guest analyst in the past. Though, this is his first full-time gig.

Jones replaces David Ross in the role. He was hired by the Chicago Cubs to be their new manager during the winter.

Jones, 47, finished his MLB career having hit .303 with eight All-Star appearances. He was a first-ballot Hall of Famer with north of 97% of the vote back in 2018.
