Kyle Shanahan laments Super Bowl loss, feels 49ers ‘had the best team in the NFL’

The San Francisco 49ers lost Super Bowl LIV in agonizing style to the Kansas City Chiefs, and head coach Kyle Shanahan knows that should not have happened.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, Shanahan agonized over the loss and said he personally felt “we had the best team in the NFL this year.”

It’s hard to argue that the 49ers didn’t have the best overall team in the league. But when the chips were pushed to the middle of the table in the biggest game of the year, both Shanahan (bad decisions) and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo came up small, along with Richard Sherman and the defense, which collapsed down the stretch.

The good news is the 49ers absolutely have the talent to get back to the Super Bowl next season. It’s just going to be an incredible challenge to mentally rebound from such a crushing loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.
