Former Browns’ player eyes NFL return months after GF killed in car accident

Chris Smith, Browns

Just as the 2019 NFL season began, Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Chris Smith experienced an immense tragedy. Now, months after his girlfriend was killed in a tragic accident, Smith is eyeing a return to the game he loves and to be closer to football.

Smith is targeting a return to the NFL after missing several months coping with the loss of his girlfriend Petara Cordero. Now in a better place, the 28-year-old defensive end is looking for opportunities to continue his NFL career.

The Browns waived Smith on Dec. 3, just a few months after his girlfriend was killed. He had signed a three-year, $14 million contract with the team the previous offseason and was expected to serve in a rotational role in 2019.

Now that he’s ready to return to the game and focus on football, Smith should attract interest from multiple NFL teams seeking help along the defensive line.
