Controversial ex-MLB star says Astros should ‘wear bulletproof vests’ at plate in 2020

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Former MLB star Aubrey Huff has been in the news for his controversial social media activity lately, so it’s not surprising his take on the Houston Astros would be over the top.

Speaking with TMZ Sports, Huff said the Astros are going to get beaned a ton this coming season due to the elaborate, long-running sign-stealing scheme that ultimately didn’t lead to any discipline for the players involved.

“I would suggest a lot of those guys — especially [Jose] Altuve and [Alex] Bregman — wear bulletproof vests up to the plate all year long! Listen, you pay the piper,” Huff said. “You reap what you sow. If you’re going to go out there and cheat, you’re going to get drilled.”

MLB has come out with an emphatic directive that opposing pitchers are not to retaliate by beaning Astros players at the plate. However, the over/under in Vegas for how many Astros batters will get plunked is extremely high, and we’re expecting that to play out in 2020 at least for a while before players get hit with discipline.
