Adding insult to injury, almost literally, Portland Trail Blazers star guard Damian Lillard left late in Wednesday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a groin injury.

Lillard landed awkwardly. He was in a ton of pain before immediately heading to the locker room. The All-Star guard did not return to the game as his Blazers lost by the score of 111-104.

Let’s hope the injury is not as serious as it looks. Lillard has a high pain threshold. He was in obvious discomfort.

Blazers head coach Terry Stotts said after the game that Lillard suffered a right groin strain and is headed for an MRI.

The star guard is set to take part in this week’s All-Star festivities in Chicago. That’s now obviously in question.

More importantly for the Blazers, this injury could derail their already slim playoff hopes. By virtue of Wednesday’s loss, Portland heads into the break four games behind Memphis for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
