Report: USC fires three athletic dept. officials over admissions scandal

USC admission scandal

The USC Trojans Athletic Department has undergone dramatic changes over the course of the past calendar year or so. That included Lynn Swann abruptly resigning as Athletic Director.

The shake up did not end there. This new piece of information adds a Hollywood-style feel to it.

According to Ryan Kartje of the Los Angeles Times, USC has fired three high-ranking athletic department officials. That includes COO/CFO Steve Lopes, Trojan Athletic Fund senior associate athletic director Ron Orr and associate athletic director Scott Jacobson.

This is an absolutely major story, one that has yet another layer involved in it.

According to the report, said firings stem from the trio allegedly being involved in the now-infamous Varsity Blues admission scandal that included a number of high-profile Hollywood stars, including actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman.

It just seemed to be a matter of time before the Trojans’ athletic department was embroiled in this made-for-television scandal.

There’s obviously going to be a lot more on this story. For now, three major figures in the USC Athletic Department are out of jobs.
