Report: Rangers sign 3B Todd Frazier to one-year deal

After exploring the free-agent market for an answer at third base, the Texas Rangers have signed former All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier. The news was first reported by The Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant.

Frazier, who spent the last two seasons with the New York Mets, now heads to Texas on a one-year deal worth $5 million. The deal contains a club option for the 2021 season, per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

The 33-year-old played in 133 games last season with the Mets. He hit 21 home runs with 67 RBI and posted a .251/.329/.443 slash line across 447 at-bats.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Texas has been in negotiations with the Colorado Rockies on a blockbuster deal that would land All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado.

The addition of Frazier gives the Rangers a short-term solution at the hot corner if they can’t land Arenado.
