Report: Knicks yet to scout likely top pick LaMelo Ball

Boston Celtics rumors: Team interested in LaMelo Ball?

We already know that the New York Knicks’ front office, led by owner James Dolan, is a complete disaster.

With New York at 11-32 on the season, fans in the Big Apple have no idea what the future might hold. That could potentially include the Knicks moving on from president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry.

Despite this, a recent report from Marc Berman of the NY Post noting that the Knicks did not scout top 2020 NBA Draft prospect LaMelo Ball in Australia is a bit shocking.

New York was expecting to send a group overseas to check in on the youngest Ball brother next month, but LaMelo shut it down for the season last week to prepare for the NBA Draft. Ball is said to be dealing with a minor foot injury.

The Knicks and other lottery teams will get a first-hand look at Ball in controlled settings leading up to June’s draft. But that does not compare in any way to watching a top-end prospect live during real in-game situations.

Ball finished up his career in Australia with consecutive triple-doubles. The 18-year-old 6-foot-7 wing averaged 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists in his first season as a pro.
