Broncos reportedly hire Pat Shurmur to be new offensive coordinator

That developed rather quickly. Mere hours after firing offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello following just one season, reports surfaced that the Denver Broncos were targeting former Giants and Browns head coach Pat Shurmur for that position.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, that’s now come to fruition. Head coach Vic Fangio and Co. are set to hire Shurmur to be the Broncos’ offensive play caller next season.

The goal here is to get an experienced offensive mind in there to help young quarterback Drew Lock after he impressed big time during the latter part of his rookie season.

Shurmur’s experience includes being the offensive coordinator for the Rams, Eagles and Vikings. The veteran assistant will now be tasked with taking over a unit that finished in the bottom five in total yards and points scored during the regular season.
