Brewers sign manager Craig Counsell to three-year extension

Craig Counsell extension

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell was set to start the 2020 MLB season as a lame duck.

Despite leading his team to the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, Milwaukee had not committed long term to the former infielder.

That’s now changed. The Brewers announced on Wednesday that they have signed Counsell to a three-year contract extension through the 2023 season.

Having dealt with financial restrictions in the mid-level Milwaukee market, Counsell’s success has now been rewarded.

He led the Brewers to an 89-73 record and a wild card appearance this past season. That came on the heels of Milwaukee earning the NL Central title and a trip to the NLCS in 2018.

Counsell has posted a 405-381 record in parts of five seasons as the Brewers’ manager.
