49ers DC compares Chiefs offense to Olympic relay team

Chiefs-49ers Super Bowl LIV

Super Bowl LIV between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is going to be a battle between teams with dramatically different ways of winning.

Led by Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ offense is among the most dominant we’ve seen in the NFL in some time. On the other side, the San Francisco 49ers boast the league’s best defense.

Strength versus strength.

In talking about this matchup on Thursday, 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh compared Kansas City’s offense to an Olympic relay team.

This is in no way wrong. The likes of Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman are among the fastest players in the league. Each has turned in plays of 20-plus miles-per-hour on a consistent basis this season.

For his part, Mahomes has shown flashes on the ground in the playoffs. This one run proved that to a T.

The good news for San Francisco is that it has the speed to go tit-for-tat with Kansas City’s offense. The team’s linebackers, Dre Greenlaw, Fred Warner and Kwon Alexander, represent one of the most-athletic trios in the entire league.

It’s certainly going to be fun to watch these two units go at it.
