Yoenis Cespedes to remain with Mets in 2020 after ‘significant’ restructure of contract

Yoenis Cespedes

The New York Mets and Yoenis Cespedes have reportedly come to an agreement on a contract amendment and restructure that keeps him under contract in 2020, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

As you may remember, Cespedes’ 2019 campaign was over before it began following an injury-shortened 2018 season in which he appeared in just 38 games. Following surgery on both of his heels, he shockingly fractured his right ankle during an accident at his ranch last May while still recovering from his operations.

With that in mind, it’s not surprising in the least that a restructured contract was on the table this winter. Whether the 34-year-old can get back to the kind of power numbers he was putting up a few years back remains to be seen.
