Utah trolls Ohio State after flipping CB Clark Phillips

The Utah Utes are feeling themselves after flipping top cornerback prospect Clark Phillips, who had previously committed to Ohio State.

Phillips flipped to Utah pretty much immediately after Ohio State secondary coach Jeff Hafley was announced as the next head coach of the Boston College football program, per The Lantern’s Griffin Strom.

Strom noted that, “Phillips was the fourth-highest rated player in Ohio State’s class, which had improved from No. 4 to No. 3 in the country prior to his decision.”

So this was a big deal, to be sure.

Afterward, the Utah Football Twitter account sent out the following tweet:

Trademark that, Buckeyes!

On a serious note, this was a huge get for Utah, which came on strong this past season and was one bad loss to Oregon away from potentially competing against Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.

If the Utes can keep landing top recruits like Phillips, they’ll have a shot to continue their ascendance as a nationally relevant program for years to come.

Phillips wasn’t the only high-profile player to flip away from a top school this year, either.
