We already know that the NFL wants to protect it quarterbacks. That’s come out in droves thus far this season, and it has not painted the league in the best of lights.
We saw this first hand during Sunday’s game between the Oakland Raiders and Jets in Jersey.
Oakland was attempting to hold the Jets to a field goal in a goal-to-go situation in the second quarter. That’s when impressive rookie Maxx Crosby combined with young defensive lineman Maurice Hurst to sack Sam Darnold.
Unfortunately, officials on hand at the Meadowlands called Hurst for a roughing the passer penalty.
We’re not even sure where to start with this one. What exactly was Hurst supposed to do here? He was already in his tackling form before Darnold was taken down by Crosby.
It’s absolutely ridiculous that outcomes of games can be decided on calls such as this.
Darnold scored a rushing touchdown on the very next play to put New York up 10-3. The officials pretty much gifted the home team four points.
Just ugly stuff.
