WATCH: Hawks’ John Collins with play of the young NBA season

The Atlanta Hawks are going to be one fun team to watch this season. Some believe that they could sneak into the playoffs back east.

If the team’s start to the 2019-20 campaign is any indication, that might very well happen. Atlanta took out the Pistons in Detroit Thursday night to open its season.

Big man John Collins was a huge reason for that. He scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. That included this incredible sequence in the fourth quarter that saw Collins steal the ball and go coast-to-coast for the flush.

Not only did Collins show off with the emphatic jam, he was fouled in the process. That’s just beautiful.

At just 22 years old, Collins joins Trae Young and a number of other Hawks players with untapped potential. He averaged 19.5 points and 9.8 rebounds as a sophomore last season.

Collins played a big role in leading his Hawks to a 17-point season-opening win over the Pistons Thursday night.
