Report: Washington Redskins ‘open’ to trading Trent Williams

After months of saying they will not trade Trent Williams, the Washington Redskins reportedly are finally willing to look into the notion.

It’s fascinating that this breaking news comes literally a day before the Oct. 29 trade deadline is here.

As the saying goes, deadlines spur action.

Williams has been and will be in high demand. He’s one of the most athletic and most dominant left tackles in the NFL and is a seven-time Pro Bowler.

He had a big feud with the Washington organization this past offseason over the way the team treated a medical condition that required multiple surgeries on his scalp. Since then, he’s been reported as saying he would never again play for Washington, and indeed he’s held out since last season.

Washington can get a fair amount in return for Williams. However, it seems unlikely that the franchise will get as much as it hopes, given his unwillingness to ever play for it again.

One team to keep an eye on, in this scribe’s opinion, is the New England Patriots, who need help on the offensive line and have an ever-closing championship window.
