Report: 49ers expected to acquire Emmanuel Sanders

Emmanuel Sanders

The undefeated New England Patriots added veteran receiver Mohamed Sanu in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons early Tuesday morning.

It now looks like the NFL’s only other undefeated team could also be adding a veteran pass catcher.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the expectation is that the San Francisco 49ers will acquire two-time Pro Bowl receiver Emmanuel Sanders from the Denver Broncos ahead of next week’s NFL trade deadline.

Another report from Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright suggests that the Saints and Packers are also in on Sanders.

As it relates to the 49ers, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Both New England and San Francisco were heavily linked to Sanders prior to the Pats adding Sano.

Clearly in the market for an upgrade at receiver, the 49ers’ front office also has a great working relationship with Broncos general manager John Elway. That could play a role here.

Despite boasting a 6-0 record, the 49ers leading pass catcher from the receiver position is Marquise Goodwin with 11 receptions for 181 yards through six games.

Sanders, 32, has caught 30 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns in seven games this season.

We’ll see if this comes to fruition before the trade deadline a week from Tuesday.
