Rays-A’s wild-card game sets MLB attendance record

Oakland Coliseum is not necessarily known for huge attendance when the A’s play. It’s one of the most run-down stadiums in all of sports.

You wouldn’t know that during Wednesday’s American League Wild Card Game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics.

Prior to the Rays leading off with a homer and rocking A’s pitching, this place was rocking. For good reason. The announced attendance for this game was 54,005, which represents a MLB record for a wild-card game.

There’s always been a thirst for baseball in Oakland. The heralded history of this organization only adds to that.

Sadly, we don’t see similar attendance figures during the regular season. It’s why both the A’s and Major League Baseball are pushing hard for a new stadium.

If that doesn’t happen, there’s a chance these A’s could relocate here at some point soon.
