Falcons make roster move signaling Matt Ryan likely won’t start Sunday against Seahawks

The Atlanta Falcons promoted Danny Etling from the practice squad Saturday, signaling that Matt Ryan is not likely to start against the Seattle Seahawks, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ryan injured his ankle last Sunday as the Falcons lost to the Los Angeles Rams. After the game, he was seen wearing a walking boot.

And while the Falcons have said they don’t believe his ankle injury is serious, Ryan did not practice all week and it appears the injury will keep him out of at least one game.

In Ryan’s stead, the Falcons will start veteran backup Matt Schaub. Etling being promoted is a precautionary measure in case Schaub is injured Sunday against Seattle.
