Report: Eagles offered Jordan Howard for Melvin Gordon

The Los Angeles Chargers are said to be looking for a first-round pick and change for holdout running back Melvin Gordon.

That asking price has been deemed as too high by experts around the NFL. It now appears that the Philadelphia Eagles agree.

According to Albert Breer of MMQB, Philadephia offered up recently-acquired running back Jordan Howard and a mere swap of mid-round picks for Gordon. As Breer notes, this was not even a conversation starter for Los Angeles.

Did a little digging around on the Melvin Gordon trade market. To give you an idea of where it is, only offer I came across was from Philly.

In that deal, Jordan Howard would go to LA, the teams would swap mid-round picks, and the Chargers would eat salary. LA obviously said no.

Gordon, 26, held out throughout training camp and the preseason in hopes of landing a new contract. He will not be with the Chargers in Week 1. In turn, Los Angeles’ brass has tabled extension talks until the end of the season.

Any team looking to acquire the two-time Pro Bowler has to also concern itself with signing him to a new contract. That should limit the return Los Angeles receives for a player entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Gordon has averaged nearly 1,500 total yards and 13 touchdowns over the past three seasons. Despite this, there doesn’t seem to be a ton of interest in his services.
