The Oakland Athletics are going to get at least one reinforcement as the team challenges for a playoff spot in the American League.
Oakland has reportedly called up top prospect Jesus Luzardo. The talented young pitcher will join the A’s in Houston on Monday.
Luzardo, 21, entered the year as Oakland’s top overall prospect and the No. 12 overall prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com.
The pitcher has potentially dominant stuff. He posted a 2-1 record with a 2.51 ERA and 1.02 WHIP while striking out 57 batters in 43 innings in the minors before getting the call.
Slated to be a long-term option as a starter, Luzardo will join Oakland’s bullpen for the stretch run.
